Description
This simple and stylish Bokashi Bin system will help to transform all your food waste, including meat, fish, cooked food and cheese, into nutritious pre-compost.
Bokashi is a Japanese term meaning fermented organic matter. With the Bokashi system, food waste is scraped into the bin and the addition of friendly bacteria in the form of a bran or spray means the waste does not rot but ferments instead.
Because the fermentation process does not produce adverse smells, the bucket can be kept under the sink or on a kitchen worktop. The lid has a silicone seal and three locking clips to ensure a secure airtight fit.
Once the bin is full it is left sealed shut for two to three weeks to allow the contents to ferment. The pre-compost mixture that is produced can then be added to your garden compost bin or buried in soil to become rich compost.
The Bokashi process also produces a beneficial liquid which is drained off using the tap at the bottom of the bin. This liquid can be used as an organic drain cleaner or diluted for use as plant fertiliser.
This twin pack means you can have two buckets working at once. When the first is full and left to ferment, you can start filling the second one.
This kit comes complete with everything you need to get started, including 1kg of our favourite Bokashi Bran, made at Lower Blakemore Farm in Hereford.
